CDC: Swine Flu Only Half of All Flu Cases

05/15/2009

Usually by this time of year, the flu season has run its course. While swine flu is still a cause for many cases of flu, there are still a surprisingly high number of ordinary flu cases, health officials said Friday.

Only about half of the people with the flu tested positive for the newest virus, H1N1 virus, called the swine flu, said a representative from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The rest have seasonal flu.

In the United States, there are now more than 4,700 probable and confirmed cases of swine flu, 173 hospitalizations and four deaths.
