Self-Storage Around the World: Reflections of Non-U.S. Facilities on Six Continents
Samosklad Helps Mold the Russia Self-Storage Industry
Another market challenged by lack of awareness is Russia. The nascent self-storage industry remains highly fragmented, with operators of various quality and sizes, all primarily based in Moscow and a few in nearby St. Petersburg. The first operators began to appear in 2009, with several more entering the market in 2010 and 2011, including Citi-Box, Redbox, Samosklad (pictured) and Skladovka. Russian self-storage developers also face a lack of financing, suitable buildings for conversions, and vague building and government regulations.
