Technology has had a huge impact on the Canadian self-storage market, where proximity to the population and an Internet presence carry nearly as much weight as street visibility. Columbia, Mo.-based StorageMart, which owns and operates more than 137 self-storage properties across 14 states and five Canadian provinces, has readily embraced new technology, enabling prospective customers to search and reserve units online, then use a Web-based system to pay rent.
