The Self-Storage WOW Gallery: See Facility Design Transformed Through Color, Architecture and Innovative Materials
Creating Attractive Self-Storage Flow
Sometimes having too much space can be the challenge. With a large lot, a developer still needs to create an attractive site, but also must be concerned about creating a flow. One way to do this is through the drive aisles, which need to accommodate traffic in an effective way or your tenants will become frustrated. Many facilities have a fortress-style design, where the storage buildings are on the property's outside perimeter. This way the drive aisle is double-loaded and takes up less space so there’s more room for income-producing storage units. The wide drive aisles at Garfield Self Storage in Bell Gardens, Calif., also enhance the facility’s overall design appeal.
