Lock America International (LAI) talked with self-storage managers and owners about the differences in self-storage unit locks, including cylinder, disks and padlocks. Operators often debate which lock is the best to preventing unit break-ins. In 2010, LAI's Rich Morahan wrote an article for Inside Self-Storage about  how to protect locks against bump keys, a tool thieves use to open locks.
