Louisiana Self-Storage Facility Housed Stolen Vehicles, 'Chop Shop'

Sheriffs in Louisiana discovered a "chop shop" for stolen automobiles late last week at a self-storage complex in Marrero, a city across the Mississippi River from New Orleans. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office uncovered the illegal part-stripping operation at Safeguard Self Storage in the 6800 block of Lapalco Boulevard.

A sheriff's spokesperson told the source several cars and parts were found in the units. The department had been investigating the possibility of stolen car parts being stored at the facility, but when deputies opened up units, they found entire cars were being dismantled there.

The spokesperson did not share whether any arrests had been made. Multiple auto body and repair shops are located near the facility.

Safeguard Self Storage has more than 60 self-storage locations across the nation, including eight in Louisiana.
