Westport Properties Inc. (WPI), which operates 122 self-storage facilities under the US Storage Centers brand, has opened a new facility in North Miami Beach, Fla. It’s the company’s sixth location in the Miami area, according to a press release.
The five-story facility at 15555 W. Dixie Highway comprises 122,605 square feet of storage space in 931 climate-controlled and drive-up units. Security features include electronic gate access, individual alarmed units and video cameras. The site also has a retail store that sells moving and packing supplies.
WPI purchased the property in 2015 for $1.4 million. The company is also developing two more facilities in Miami. The projects are expected to be complete later this year, the release stated.
“We see tremendous demand for self-storage in the Miami area with its density, attractiveness to live and do business, and diverse economy,” said Charles Byerly, CEO and president. “US Storage Centers will continue to look to grow its presence in Miami and Florida through development, acquisitions and third-party management.”
Founded in 1985 and based in Irvine, Calif., WPI is a real estate investment company that acquires, develops and operates self-storage facilities as well as provides third-party management services. Its portfolio comprises 8 million rentable square feet in 15 states.
