U-Haul Acquires Self-Storage Facility in Michigan

The U-Haul Co. of Central Michigan acquired a self-storage facility in Southfield, Mich. The facility, 19510 West 8 Mile Road, features more than 550 storage units and 43,500 square feet of self-storage.

U-Haul Self-Storage at 8 Mile has indoor, climate-controlled, outdoor and drive-up storage, as well as U-Box pod moving and storage. With U-Box, customers can pick up the companys custom-designed trailer and take the U-Box pod with them to fill. The pod can then be stored by U-Haul or delivered to a new location.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to expand our presence in Southfield and look forward to continuing our long-standing relationships with local communities throughout Michigan," said Bill Rains, president, U-Haul Co. of Central Michigan.

U-Haul Self-Storage at 8 Mile showcases 24-hour security with electronically controlled access, digital video surveillance with individually alarmed rooms and the option to purchase tenant insurance.

The facility will sell a variety of environmentally friendly packing supplies including boxes made out of recyclable materials, 100 percent biodegradable packing peanuts and moving pads made from recycled denim.

Also on site will be a Take a Box/Leave a Box display, which allows customers or anyone in the community to leave moving boxes or unwanted electronics boxes for another customer to reuse for free, instead of throwing them away or recycling them.

Established in 1945, U-Haul has 36 million square feet of storage space at more than 1,000 owned and managed facilities throughout North America.
