Self-Storage Operator Pogoda Cos. Acquires Facility in Westland, Mich.

Self-storage operator Pogoda Cos. recently acquired New-West Mini Storage in Westland, Mich., for $1.6 million. The formerly bank-owned facility at 1638 S. Newburgh Road will be rebranded as National Storage CentersWestland. It consists of eight buildings with 378 units totaling 52,350 square feet of rentable storage space.

"We were surprised that such a well-located property would be in trouble," said Maurice Pogoda, company president. "It sits (near) three of our other properties that are all doing very well. So, we concluded that there must have been some management or operational issues inhibiting growth. Once we complete our planned renovationspainting, enhanced security, a new name and signage, a new entrance with more parkingand implement our proven management strategies, we will be off to the races."

Based in Farmington Hills, Mich., Pogoda Cos. is a self-storage operator and broker with 39 facilities and approximately 3 million square feet of self-storage space in Michigan and Ohio. The firm provides brokerage, management, investment and consulting services to the self-storage industry through its Pogoda Group Inc. and Pogoda Management Co. divisions.
