Mabeys Moving & Storage Begins $3M Expansion of New York Self-Storage Facility

Mabeys Moving & Storage Inc., a self-storage operator based in Halfmoon, N.Y., is set to begin a $3 million to $5 million expansion of its facility in Latham, N.Y. The project calls for the demolition of three former automotive-repair buildings next to its current facility and construction of more than 50,000 square feet of storage space on the 2.2-acre lot, according to Tom Blass, construction manager.

The project will expand the Latham facilitys storage capacity to more than 95,000 square feet. Demolition of the existing buildings will occur over the next few weeks. The company purchased the land about a year ago for $900,000.

Mabeys has also submitted plans to the town of Colonie, N.Y., to build a new self-storage facility comprised of two 22,000-square-foot, two-story storage buildings and a 10,000-square-foot building for storage and an office.

If approved, the facility will be Mabeys seventh location, all in the area around Albany, N.Y. The companys six facilities comprise about 2,300 units and 450,000 square feet. The company built its first self-storage facility in the 1980s.

In addition to self-storage, Mabeys also offers complete moving services, mobile storage, truck service, records management and construction services.
