Sharp Center for Nursing Excellence Receives Financial Support from A-1 Self Storage

California self-storage operator A-1 Self Storage is donating money to Sharp HealthCare Foundations Center of Nursing Excellence (CONE), which creates a common infrastructure for nursing professionals to share best practices and enhance collaboration across the organization. In addition to providing solutions associated with the growing nursing shortage, the center will provide a common frame of reference, collective knowledge and shared vision for nursing professionals.

According to a release on the Sharp website, the Caster Family, which owns and operates A-1 Self Storage, has donated more than $240,000 toward nursing education across Sharp HealthCare since 2005. This includes a $50,000 grant to hire a CONE director and begin implementation of a system-wide nurse-residency program.

The goal of CONE is to recruit and retain the best and brightest workforce while further developing the organizations nurse leadership. The residency program not only assists new graduate nurses in their socialization to the professional role, it accelerates the skill acquisition necessary to work in the hospital environment.

A-1 Self Storage has 16 locations in the San Diego County area and more than 40 locations statewide. It is the self-storage division of the Caster Cos., a third-generation, family-owned company headquartered in South California since 1959. Caster Cos. develops and manages A-1 Self Storage, A-1 Car Storage and other commercial properties in California. Its portfolio includes more than 4 million square feet of real estate.
