Sweet Soul Storage
The initiated will recognize that today's blog title is a play off of a song by The Cult (one of the greatest rock bands in the world, thank you very much). No, this isn't a "young person" thing—The Cult has been around for more than 20 years, creating alternative music to inspire girls' swooning and boys' fist-raising/air-punching.
I had the distinct pleasure of attending a Cult concert at the Marquee Theater in Tempe, Ariz., last night. I insisted that my husband I go for two reasons: One, I've been listening to this band since I was 15 (theirs was the first rock poster to grace my bedroom wall); and two, I thought, heck, this might be the last time I get to see these guys live. They're not spring chickens anymore, and rock n' roll quickly takes its toll on people.
In a general-admission venue, the spoils of front-row spots go to the most persistent. I made sure to be at the rail. We weren't allowed to bring in cameras, but here's a pretty crappy photo we took with a cell phone:
That fuzzy figure in front there is lead singer Ian Astbury, who (I was disappointed to see) had cut his hair since the last time I saw him live, nearly five years ago (I think). Anyway, I'm sharing all this for no other reason than it was a fantastic outing, and I'm still very excited about it. My brain has been consumed with little more than self-storage and our Vegas expo for so long—it was invigorating to finally unplug and just groove on a good vibe for a while.
I have some storage-related news to on which to comment, but I'll save it for tomorrow. Today, I just want everyone to share in my semi-epiphany regarding the savoring of life (how important it is to keep priorities in check, stop and smell the roses, yadda, yadda). Man, it's just too easy to get swallowed up in the mundane, don't you find? So I'm "looking over my cubicle" so to speak, reminding myself that there's life outside the workplace—whether that be a home office, self-storage reception area, construction site, etc.
Whatever you're preoccupied with today, take just five minutes to let it go. You may not be able to keep the worry at bay for long, but give yourself that gift, however brief. Maybe crank up your favorite tune and rock out for a bit. Hey ... it works for me!
