At least one of a string of fires plaguing self-storage facilities across the nation now has a cause—and a motive. Four people have been charged with breaking into several RVs at Stockade Self Storage in Harnett County earlier this month. The thieves then set the RVs ablaze to hide their crime. Overall, nine trailers and two boats were destroyed Aug. 4. The crime is a good reminder about two essential components for all self-storage facilities: good insurance and a lot of security.

While I don’t know what kind of security system Stockade Self Storage offers, I do know determined thieves will find a way. So that means your security system must be solid. No fake cameras. Forget barbed-wire fencing. You need the real deal.
