When Are You Open This Weekend? Self-Storage Talk Hosts Holiday-Schedule DiscussionAs most businesses are closed on Christmas Day and it falls on a Sunday this year, workplaces have a choice on how to observe the holiday. Many offices, including that of the federal government, are closed Monday, Dec. 26, to allow employees to enjoy an extended weekend. Other offices are closed Friday and Saturday, too. Self-storage, however, is different because on the days immediately before or after Christmas, tenants may need access to units. |

Photos and Video: LifeStorage Holiday Events in Chicago Spark Self-Storage Talk DiscussionWhatever business you're in, this time of year lends itself to holiday-themed events. Hosting a festive gathering has a two-fold benefit; first, it's an opportunity to give back to your customers and community, and second, it generates an excellent marketing and publicity opportunity. LifeStorage, a Chicago-area operator of 17 facilities, decided to realize both of these benefits by hosting a "Santa's Workshop" at multiple locations. The event featured jolly Kris Kringle himself inviting children of all ages to take a seat on his knee, eat candy, rock around a decked-out Christmas tree, enjoy free refreshments, and take advantage of free gift-wrapping. |

What Tenants Can't Store: Self-Storage Talk Erupts with Praise of Facilities Who Display, Enforce Their RulesOff the top of my head, I can think of a handful of items that should never be put into self-storage: human beings or animals; perishable food items; hazardous or highly combustible materials; and myriad others.
