Update 12/17/19 – Extra Space and Yardi Systems have been voted among the Best Places to Work in 2020 as part of Glassdoor’s annual Employees’ Choice Awards. Extra Space is No. 90 and Yardi is No. 53 in the top-100 list of large companies. They were the only self-storage-related businesses to be recognized this year.

“We are excited and proud that Glassdoor has recognized Extra Space as a great place to work, based entirely on reviews from our employees,” Margolis said. “This recognition is extra meaningful since it comes straight from our team of 4,000 employees. It's a testament to our company culture and our values of integrity, innovation, passion, teamwork and excellence. We are proud to be a place that supports our employees and provides excellent careers.”

“Taking care of team members and offering opportunities to contribute to our clients’ success are guiding principles,” Yardi added. “We are honored to receive this prestigious award from Glassdoor, and we are grateful for the supportive culture that has been fostered at all levels within our organization.”

The top five companies on the list were HubSpot, Bain & Co., DocuSign, In-N-Out Burger and Sammons Financial Group.

“This year marks the shift to a culture-first decade in the workplace, and Glassdoor's Employees' Choice Awards winners are employers that are prioritizing culture, mission and employees at the heart of everything they do,” said Christian Sutherland-Wong, president of Glassdoor. “In addition to putting culture and mission at the core of how they operate, this year's winners stand out for promoting transparency with employees, offering career growth opportunities and providing work driven by impact and purpose.”

12/8/17 – Extra Space Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust (REIT) and third-party management firm, and Yardi Systems Inc., a provider of management software for self-storage and other real estate, have been voted among the Best Places to Work in 2018 as part of the annual Employees’ Choice Awards for Glassdoor, a website where employees and former employees anonymously review companies and their management. Glassdoor compiles votes from participants and ranks the top 100 large companies and the top 50 small and mid-sized businesses. Extra Space is No. 73 and Yardi is No. 42 in the top-100 list. They were the only self-storage-related businesses to be recognized this year.

The 2018 rankings were determined by using company reviews from U.S.-based employees between Nov. 1, 2016 and Oct. 22, 2017. Companies in the “large” category must have a minimum of 1,000 employees and receive at least 75 ratings across eight workplace attributes during the voting period. The final list was compiled based on Glassdoor’s algorithm, which considers quantity, quality and consistency of reviews, according to a press release. The top five large companies were Facebook, Bain & Co., Boston Consulting Group, In-N-Out Burger and Google.

Extra Space was one of four Utah-based companies honored. The REIT was also recently named a top company to work for by “Utah Business” magazine. "It is a great compliment to be recognized as a top employer in Utah and across the nation," said Joe Margolis, CEO of Extra Space. “We place significant emphasis on living our company values every day, which include integrity, excellence, innovation, teamwork and passion. Our team's commitment to these values throughout the organization makes Extra Space Storage a great place to work."

“This is a tremendous honor for our company and reflects the positive experiences of our growing workforce,” said Anant Yardi, president and founder of Yardi Systems. “We appreciate the recognition from Glassdoor and thank our employees who took the time to share their thoughts and opinions.”

In June, Yardi was named to Glassdoor’s Highest Rated CEO list, which is also based on feedback submitted by current and former employees. Of the top 100 CEOs, Yardi ranked No. 32.

"We know today's job seekers are more informed than ever about where they go to work, researching everything from company culture to career opportunities to pay philosophy and more,” said Robert Hohman, CEO and co-founder of Glassdoor. “To help people find companies that stand out from the pack, the Glassdoor Employees' Choice Awards recognize employers that are truly Best Places to Work because they're determined by those who really know best—the employees."
