The Florida Self Storage Association (FSSA) will host its annual Owners Summit, Nov. 1-2, at the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, Fla. Open to self-storage owners, operators and investors, the event will begin with an evening reception in the hotel’s Bay View Bar. The second day will include opening remarks followed by four seminars and a luncheon.

Michael Mele, senior managing director of investments for real estate firm Marcus & Millichap, will lead the first education session, a panel discussion on operational challenges. Panelists will include Paul Feikema, vice president of operations for Hide-Away Storage LLC; Jay Massirman, founder and managing principal of Rivergate Cos.; Noah Springer, senior vice president of business development and strategic relations for Extra Space Storage Inc.; and Rick Yonis, president of Sentry Self Storage.

Next, a seminar on eminent domain will be led by Brian E. Smith, an attorney with the law firm Baker & Hostetler LLP, while a third session will discuss how recent hurricanes might affect insurance rates, claims and processes. The final seminar, led by Bret Zinn, senior account executive for Yardi Systems, will explore industry construction and rental-rate data.

The show will close with a networking lunch on the hotel’s Ca’ d’Zan Terrace.

“The FSSA is a great resource for owners and vendors alike to stay up-to-date on trends and issues that may impact our businesses,” said Chuck Dodge, senior account executive of Bader Co., a show sponsor.

Show registration is available via the FSSA website. Fees vary for members and nonmembers.

The FSSA works to ensure the stability and growth of the Florida self-storage industry. It provides a forum through which members can increase knowledge, exchange information, and promote an established, unified voice, according to officials.
