For the past two years, new self-storage construction has been in limbo. Now lending opportunities such as Small Business Administration (SBA) loans are paving the way for quality self-storage developments across the nation.

Investors looking to enter the industry with a new build, or current self-storage owners looking to expand, can get the information they need during the Developers Seminar at the Inside Self-Storage World Expo in Las Vegas. On March 16, noon to 5 p.m., industry expert RK Kliebenstein, president of Coast-To-Coast Storage, will begin with an overview of the industry and self-storage construction. He’ll then delve deeper into project feasibility by examining actual project scenarios using sophisticated on-screen economic modeling.

Workshop attendees will actually “build” a self-storage project in class, running through if-then situations and see how specific changes affect the dynamics of a project's viability and profitability. They’ll discuss what happens when construction or lands costs increase, how to accommodate the project if rental rates drop in the market, or if stabilization of occupancy takes longer than expected—all critical information when developing a new self-storage facility.

Registrants can choose the Developers Seminar as a standalone workshop for $395 if registering by Jan. 14, a savings of $200; or they combine the workshop with other show offerings, such as the Education Package, which includes access to all seminars, the exhibit hall, and five networking events. Details about the industry’s largest conference and tradeshow can be found at www.insideselfstorageworldexpo.com. Registration can be completed online or by calling 800.230.2311.
