United Stor-All Management, a self-storage management firm based in Mt. Airy, Md., recently participated with the ABC hit show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to build a house for the Drumm Family, who work to improve the lives of disabled children. The episode showcasing the project will air on Jan. 18, 8/7c.
About to enter its sixth season, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is a weekly TV series providing home renovations for deserving families. Each episode showcases a family that has faced a recent or ongoing hardship. This season’s theme is “Heroes in the Community.” All of the work is performed in seven days while the family is on vacation, paid for by the show's producers. All materials and labor are donated.
“Extreme Makeover” contacted United Stor-All in November seeking sponsors and volunteers to help build a home in Quincy Township, Pa. In addition to sponsoring the event, United gathered its employees to assist in the construction.
After the birth of their second child with autism, Matthew and Blasia Drumm dedicated their lives to children with disabilities. They help manage the Challenger Little League Program for special-needs kids and, during the school year, Blasia works as a teacher’s aide at the Franklin Learning Center for Handicapped Children. Matthew and Blasia have assisted leagues developing in other areas and were awarded the Penn Marr Challenger League, Division Family Service Award in 2006.
When purchasing their home, the Drumms were unaware that the house and surrounding lot had been used to for dump trash and waste. Due to their financial hardship, they were not able to make many improvements to the home, which was heated by a single wood-burning stove. Their hope was to be able to offer in-home respite care to other special needs’ children. “Extreme Makeover” transformed the dilapidated domicile to this end.
