Renowned competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi will attempt to set the world record for the most cupcakes eaten in one minute on July 13 at an Uncle Bob’s Self Storage facility in Upper Saddle River, N.J. Kobayashi holds four Guinness World Records and is perhaps best known for winning the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, N.Y., six times in a row.

The free “Man vs. Cupcake” demonstration will start at 2:30 p.m. at the Uncle Bob’s location at 211 Route 17 South. Kobayashi will attempt to break the record by eating cupcakes from Sugar Flake Bakery, a local favorite. Sugar Flake baked goods will also be available for guests to enjoy during the event.

“This will be a one-of-a-kind event that I know everyone is looking forward to,” said Everett Taylor, area manager for Uncle Bob’s New Jersey facilities. “Kobayashi is a legend, and we can’t wait to share the experience with our customers and visitors.”

In addition to his hot dog-eating prowess, Kobayashi has won competitions for eating bratwursts, pizza and chicken wings, among other foods.

Uncle Bob’s is owned by Sovran Self Storage Inc., a real estate investment trust that owns and manages more than 450 storage facilities in 25 states. The company currently has 20 self-storage locations in New Jersey.
