On Sept. 14, more than 400 real estate professionals went head to head in athletic events during Buchanan Storage Capital’s seventh annual Challenge for Children fundraiser in Newport Beach, Calif. This year’s multi-sport competition raised $573,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Miocean Foundation, Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), and United Way’s Success By 6 (SB6).
United Way received $498,000 to support its SB6 initiative in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Francisco. The other three charities each received $25,000.

The all-day event hosted 48 industry teams competing in volleyball, basketball, a kayak-run relay and a water-bike race. The Newport Beach Fire Department took home the first-place trophy, followed by The Irvine Co. in second place, and Bixby Land Co. in third. Participants also enjoyed a beach party and awards ceremony, and a check was presented to Laura Long, Orange County United Way’s director of children and youth development.

“This year’s Challenge for Children marked our most significant contribution to date, and I have no doubt that next year we will raise the bar even higher,” said Robert Brunswick, president and CEO of Buchanan Street Partners, BSC’s parent company. “Buchanan is committed to helping our youth succeed and our communities thrive, and we thank all the teams that participated to support some amazing causes.”
