San Diego Self Storage Donates 1-Year Use of Unit to Urban Surf for Kids

California self-storage operator San Diego Self Storage (SDSS) has donated the use of a storage unit for one year to Urban Surf for Kids (US4K), a nonprofit that works to empower orphans and foster youth through water-based activities and community projects. The organization plans to use the unit at SDSS-owned Olivenhain Self Storage in Encinitas, Calif., to store merchandise donated by corporations and private individuals in anticipation of opening its own thrift store.

Merchandise donations had overloaded the groups physical office space on Utah Street in San Diego, officials said in a press release. Items stored in the unit will be stockpiled until they can be inventoried for sale either in the future thrift outlet or through US4Ks current online store.

San Diego Self Storage has built a great relationship with our local communities, and throughout many years have partnered with nonprofit organizations whose missions align with our corporate core values, said Chris Wood, facility manager at Olivenhain Self Storage. Giving back to the community is of the utmost importance, particularly regarding programs that develop and teach local youth successful traits to achieve success and mentor them to become responsible stewards of the environment. This new partnership is another way our organization proves that being aware of our local communities' needs and providing them with assistance propels wonderful organizations like Urban Surf 4 Kids to make a difference, impacting so many lives in the greater San Diego community.

Were tremendously grateful to SDSS for providing us with much-needed storage space. The merchandise we collect and house at Olivenhain Self Storage will enable us to raise money for deserving orphaned youth and foster children through our foundation, said Hector Lopez, marketing manager for US4K. Although we do not have a storefront location at the present time, well be able to document the donations and add items to our online store until we have secured retail space for a brick-and-mortar facility in Encinitas.

Founded in 1972, SSDS has a network of 18 self-storage facilities in San Diego County and additional facilities in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The company is locally owned and operated.
