Self-Storage Facility Opens on Former Drive-In Movie Property in Kearney, NE

Self-storage operator Sixth Street Development LLC has opened its second facility in Kearney, Neb., on a lot that once housed a drive-in movie theater. Kearney Drive-In Self Storage is comprised of 380 units and offers exterior storage for boats, RVs and other vehicles.

The facility was built by BD Construction, a local design and construction-management company. It features all-steel construction, concrete floors and in-door guardian lock systems. Security amenities include fencing, electronic gate access, video cameras and nightly security patrol.

The former drive-in theater closed in 2008 when a tornado destroyed the projection screen.

"There's always demand for this kind of storage space because people are constantly in transition and need a place to stash things temporarily, or they own things that they want to keep but just don't have the room for right now," said Mark Benjamin, president and CEO of BD Construction.

Sixth Street Development also operates Sixth Street Self Storage in Kearney and manages 4URTOYS Storage in Johnson Lake, Neb.
