Pipe Bomb, Explosives Removed from Self-Storage Facility in Odessa, TX

A pipe bomb and other potential explosives were discovered this week inside a unit at a CubeSmart self-storage facility in Odessa, Texas. The bomb unit from the Odessa Police Department was called in by narcotics officers who had issued a warrant to search the unit.

In addition to a make-shift pipe bomb, investigators found a hand grenade and an unidentified object wrapped in electrical tape. A voluntary evacuation was issued to businesses in the area immediately surrounding the storage facility. The possible explosive items were all eventually rendered safe by bomb technicians, and no one was injured.

Bomb technicians used a robot to retrieve the pipe bomb.
