Jim Buckley, the manager at Stars and Stripes Storage in Savannah, Ga., called authorities Thursday after finding the dead bodies of four cats and one dog in crates in one of his units. The manager was in the process of preparing the unit, which also contained household items, for auction, as the tenant had been delinquent on rent for more than 90 days.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Animal Control along with the Savannah police came to the scene. They are investigating the unit's tenant, Stephanie Bennett, who began renting the 10-by-20-foot space in January. They believe she has moved to South Carolina.

Animal Control officers told the source the pets have been dead for months, based on the state of decomposition.

Stars and Stripes Storage is at 5503 Montgomery St. south of Savannah's central business district.
