Chicagoland self-storage operator LifeStorage is supporting The Pantry of Rich Township, a not-for-profit extension of the Salvation Army, by holding the organizations second annual yard sale on June 2 at its Matteson, Ill., facility.

The collection process is under way, and the approaching event marks the sixth organized effort in a series of fundraisers and donation drives throughout the past year for The Pantry, which is the facility's chief charitable endeavor. Efforts began with an open-ended food drive, a charity car wash, participation in Chicago's annual Hunger Walk, and an holiday clothing and toy drive.

LifeStorage facility manager Allison Thompson is encouraging current tenants and community members to gather any items that are in good shape but no longer wanted or needed and drop them off at the facility. Thompson specifically requests tools, electronics, toys, clothing, furniture, kitchenware, yard equipment and bikes. Donations will be accepted until June 1.

All proceeds collected from the sale are given to The Pantry. Since the start of the donation and collection efforts, LifeStorage has collected about $1,100 in food donations, $600 from the 2011 yard sale, $200 from last years car wash, and $800 in bread and pastry donations from Wonder Bread.

"Our sister facilities are all working towards the same goals, to help our communities in any way they can. We know that it's tough and that people are still struggling. For us, The Pantry has such an immense impact on the community where we work, we're focusing on continuous support for Rich Township and the families that live here."

LifeStorage has 18 facilities in Chicago and its suburbs, with another facility slated to open later this year. The company was founded in 2002 by owners Jean Jodoin and Christopher Barry.
