The Amity Township Planning Commission in Boyertown, Pa., is considering a self-storage development on two acres of a 12-acre site.

Fred Wookey had previously planned to develop a 25,000-square-foot attraction including a restaurant and family-friendly areas. The Funacacy Hill Family Educational Center may have also included miniature golf. The real estate crash in 2008 ended Wookeys elaborate plans.

Now he hopes to develop a self-storage facility. The land was rezoned highway commercial in 2008 and would permit self-storage, but there are some questions regarding driving entrances. The commission has agreed to accept a sketch of the plan for an informal review by the township engineer and solicitor.

Wookey also faces opposition from David Fisher, owner of Amity Self Storage. Fisher said the area already has three self-storage facilities and demand has dropped over the past few years.

The unmanned self-storage facility would include two storage buildings, plus exterior parking for boats, RVs and other vehicles.
