Big Yellow Self Storage Partners With McLaren Construction for $16.3M London Project

British self-storage operator Big Yellow Self Storage is employing McLaren Construction to complete a 75,000-square-foot, £10 million ($16.3 million) self-storage facility in Chiswick, West London, by May 2012.

The team of professionals working on the project have experience working on other Big Yellow projects. The team includes architects Mountford Pigott and engineers Campbell Reith and Silcock Dawson. The facility is being built near the major M4/A4 highway corridor and is designed to serve several West London neighborhoods and suburbs.

Nigel Hartley, construction director for Big Yellow told the source, The main challenge for the design was to create a high-quality building fitting for this prominent location. The main construction challenge will be to accommodate the building and its large service-yard area on a tight site. The building footprint covers the whole site, and the floor area has been achieved by suspending six upper floors from the roof structure, which creates a clear yard for articulated vehicles to turn."

Big Yellow Self-Storage has 61 facilities in the United Kingdom, with most concentrated in Greater London.
