Island Self Storage in Bermuda Debuts Wine Storage

Island Self Storage, which opened in Bermuda in May, debuted its dedicated wine storage last week.

The facility features wine storage lockers in varying sizes, with the largest capable of holding roughly 130 cases. The lockers’ temperature stays between 55 and 58 degrees with the humidity not exceeding 70 percent. A back-up generator ensures humidity and temperature control even if the power goes out.

The facility’s owners spent several months heavily marketing the facility. Brochures detailing Island Self Storage’s services and amenities were distributed in November and December to commercial renters and condo developers, followed by a billboard campaign in January and February, and website and advertising promotions. The facility had 20 percent leaseup by March, and gained three wine-storage renters last week.

Island Self Storage was developed by Don Mackenzie, chairman of New Venture Holdings Ltd., in collaboration with business consultant Glen Smith, president of Island Solutions (Bermuda) Ltd.

In addition to the wine lockers, the facility has 300 self-storage units in a variety of sizes, a retail shop for packing supplies, fax and photocopy services. It’s located near one of the island’s biggest industrial estates.

Tenants can access their wine lockers any time with their own lock and code. The facility also features surveillance cameras.
