Extra Space Storage Offers E-Waste Recycling at 12 Southern California Locations

Extra Space Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust, is partnering with TRI Products to provide electronic-waste (e-waste) recycling at 12 of its facilities in Southern California.

Residents in San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties can drop off their end-of-life electronics for free to be recycled safely and securely.

In 2007, 3 million tons of e-waste was generated in the United States, according to a press release from Extra Space Storage. Of this amount, only 410,000 tons or 13.6 percent was recycled, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The rest was trashed in landfills or incinerators.

Accepted items include computers, monitors, printers, motherboards, TVs, VCR and DVD players, fax machines, phones and more. Items will be accepted Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

TRI Products recycles more than 20 million pounds of scrap annually. Licensed by the State of California, the company fully complies with all EPA regulations.

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Extra Space owns or operates 786 self-storage properties in 33 states and Washington, D.C. The company’s properties comprise approximately 510,000 units and more than 55 million square feet of rentable space.
